FC Zurich in form striker Stephen Odey, Says he’s hoping his new fine form will open the door into the Super Eagles for him in the future, having being left out of the team list released on Monday by Coach Gernot Rohr.
The former MFM of Lagos forward was overlooked by the Super Eagles handlers for next month’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying tie between Nigeria and South Africa in Johannesburg.
Speaking on his omission from the team, Odey said he’s disappointed to have missed out but optimistic he will be given the chance to what he can do.
Stephen Odey hoping for a Super Eagles call-up
“I think I deserve the call- up now. A lot of Nigerian players (strikers) are doing well in Europe right now and I hope I will be given an opportunity to come and show how much I’ve learned in the game.
I promise to give my best any time I’m called upon to represent Nigeria,” he said.
The 20-year-old has scored eight goals for FC Zurich so far but he’s setting his sight on reaching twenty goals Mark before the end of the current campaign.
“I’ve got eight goals now in all competitions and we are still in October. There are still a lot of games to be played between now and the end of the season both in the League and hopefully in the Europa League so reaching 20 goals should not be asking for too much, so help me God,” he concluded.
Odey joined FC Zurich from MFM of Lagos two seasons ago after his superb debut in the Nigeria professional football league.
